Visual wall effect with Flare
The interaction design company Whitevoid from Germany has developed what they call ‘flakes’. With many of these flakes they can visualize whole walls to create effects.
What is it?
The German company has developed flakes, odd shaped forms that can be tilted. Through tilting the flakes the side gets a different color. When placing many flakes next to each other (or a full wall) animations can be created.
How does it work?
The flakes are modular and can be placed on full facades to create a visual effect. Each flake can be tilted through pneumatic (air powered) cylinders. The flakes can become a second skin on buildings, walls or other surfaces. The building can communicate and express itself.

The visual effect
Each metal flake reflects the bright sky or sunlight when in vertical standby position. When the flake is tilted the face is shaded from and appears as a dark surface.

Applications
It is unknown if these flakes have ever been brought into production, we will keep following further development closely.
