Multi touch in Windows 7
With the introduction of Microsoft surface and the Iphone many people wonder if the new windows platform (Windows 7) will support a multi touch screen as well. It seems it will.
Back to basics
With multitouch screens we go back to were we come from in terms of interaction. We first had to write a letter with pen and paper, which changed over time through the computer. With a qwerty keyboard we had to type our message but with multi touch screen we can write again with a pen.
Another example, we used to sort our photos by hand on a table. Some we would cut or rotate to turn it into a collage. Later with the use of programs like Photoshop we made the collages with our mouse on the computer. And now we can sort photos again like we did on the table with the multi touch screens. Rotate, scale or crop photos can be done in a similar way as we did.

At a conference called , ‘All Things Digital’ a few of the multi-touch innovations first previewed in Surface will ultimately enhance the next version of Windows. Check out the video.

The difference between pressing buttons and watch things happen on the screen, and actually directly manipulating the things on the screen with your hands, is pretty big. By removing one layer of abstraction between the system and the user the interface seems to becomes more natural and easy to use.
I think we are going to see a lot more of this interaction paradigm in the future.

Gabriel, you unveil the concept so well. You say what I have been thinking ever since I discovered and advocated for WM Tablet PC version, but much more eloquently and clearly. Thank you for giving me some better words, a better paradigm picture, to explain what I feel to friends and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Ted
